Shipowners and managers come to Seatrust with repair, spares, and dry-docking work. The Technical Manager is the person who looks at each job, works out exactly what it needs technically, and makes sure the operations team carries it out correctly.

The role

• Take the technical lead when an owner brings in a repair, dry-docking, or spares job. Understand the requirement and turn it into a clear scope of work.
• Work out exactly which parts and spares a job calls for, so sourcing is accurate and the right components reach the right job.
• Prepare repair specifications and review yard and vendor quotes.
• Direct the operations team through execution. Set the technical direction, answer the questions that come up on site, and sort out problems as they happen.
• Coordinate dry dockings, afloat and voyage repairs, and riding squads, and attend the work where it counts.
• Act as the technical point of contact for owners, yards, classification societies, and suppliers. Support sale-and-purchase and pre-purchase condition inspections.

What you need

• A degree in marine engineering. This is required.
• 4–5 years of shore-based experience in ship repair, dry-docking, technical, or vessel management work.
• A strong practical understanding of vessel systems and machinery — enough to assess a job and know what it involves and which parts and spares it needs.
• Experience directing or supporting an operations team, and keeping the technical side of a project sound from start to finish.
• Familiarity with classification and statutory requirements, dry-docking and repair management, and technical scoping and budgeting.
• Comfort dealing with yards, contractors, and suppliers, and making technical and commercial decisions under pressure.
• Sailing experience as an engineer officer is a strong plus, and a Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency more so. Neither is essential for the right shore-based candidate.
